target audience

i used to not watch much tv, i had a hard time getting "into" any shows... no lie it took me till the 3rd season to jump on the "Grey's" bandwagon... and i never even considered Lost. kind of like books, i like mindless humor in my tv shows of choice.

so, here they are friends... in random order
SATC--i dvr every old episode and watch at least 2 at night before bed
favorite character: carrie (well, her shoes)

Greys-- husband and i never watch the season on tv
we ALWAYS wait and buy the dvds then have a marathon
favorite character: bailey

DDD-- pretty much would love Guy's job
favorite character: taco stands,mmm!

Housewives of .... pretty much anywhere, i'm such a sucker
favorite character: gretchen

i'm NOT a danielle fan, blah!
favorite character: jacqueline, teresa, and caroline
(they're all so fun--except trashy danielle, husband thinks she is a man)

NYC housewife, Bethenny Frankel...
(who is also my favorite nyc housewife)
bethenny getting married?
love the show, its absolutely hysterical

OTH--husband makes fun of me for this one,
he says apparently i'm addicted to bad tv
favorite character: brooke

my version of the news
favorite character: joe koi

i cant believe i'm admitting to the world that i watch "Make it or Break it"
between this show and the one below, husband says our children are never, as in NEVER allowed to watch the family channel. again, addicted to bad tv
favorite character: peyson

the secret life of the american teenager
favorite character: grace
lame
cant help myself.
dont hate.

and last but not least

another show husband and i buy the dvd's of and have a marathon
favorite character: undecided

okay, now that i've been brutally honest...
feel free to judge me
i've got a thing for reality tv
but i pride myself on being able to break the "bachelor" addiction
in college, it was a girls night
i've been lucky enough to overcome it and i no longer follow the bachelor or bachelorette!
progress, right?

reading is for the cool kids

i go through phases when i enjoy reading, and others when i just cant seem to focus. am i alone?

husband reads historical fiction books, usually about wars or generals. i tend to prefer lighter reading, and i'm usually one to judge a book by the cover, or at least the title & cover art. if the book seems to have anything to do with pink or blonde, or being southern and ladylike, i'm generally intrigued.

i just finished "Four Blondes" by Candace Bushnell --- anybody else read it yet???
it wasn't bad, it wasn't outstanding either.
i don't usually finish a book and think "wow, that was a complete waste of time" because i just read for pleasure, so if a book is sub-par... then it is what it is. no hard feelings!

i started this one two nights ago, so far so good

i'll let you all know how it goes!

my friend Jennifer loaned me this one to read, i got a HUGE kick out of it, so if you haven't picked it up yet, i highly encourage you to do so, if for nothing more than a good laugh!

and i loaned Jennifer this one

literally... laughed out loud.
its pretty hard to be in a bad mood after reading a chapter of this one!

do i buy books because they are pink? yes.
is that wrong?
i think not.

happy wednesday!

my not so green thumb

my mother once said in her early 20's that she wanted a house without a kitchen, ha-- obviously she grew out of that phase. but i think there is something to the mindset of 20-somethings "i don't know how to do that, so i don't want it in my house" -- luckily, i love to cook and i lust over huge kitchens, but i do have my own attitude about domestic things.    mine is more... outside of my house, the whole gardening situation.

am i the only one who thinks its okay to plant fake flowers????????

reasons:
1. they don't die
2. they don't need water, therefore cant die
3. when you're over them, you yank them out and stick a new kind in. POOF! pretty flowers!

my sweet mother, and sweet mother-in-law both disagreed with me on this subject and gave me the vote of confidence that "i can do this whole gardening thing" -- they both have beautiful flowers, and even know all the names!!!

my solution: make it cute!
i saw these cute flower pots in front of a really chic boutique in Ruidoso, NM-- and i thought "i can do that, planting flowers is way more fun in a cute pot, right?" so.... here is my attempt at re-creating the cute flower pots:
step 1: spray paint terra cotta flower pots white
(note: this took 2 cans of spray paint, lots of coats)

step 2: paint rim of pot black (acrylic paint)
and tape off stripe lines with painters tape,
remove tape quickly after painting
-black paint will take at least 2 coats-

step 3: re-touch lines and decide this is harder than it looks
apparently, i need more practice.

attempt #1 = mediocre, improvement needed
i give myself a C-
not a complete failure, but not porch worthy yet.

pictures of attempt #2 coming soon!
happy tuesday!

the zoo

i'd like to introduce you all to a sweet little rescue kitten my parents have adopted and named Elliot
we found this little guy in a pile of wood in my brother's backyard
isn't he precious and tiny?!?
we scooped him right up and took him home, even though we weren't sure if he was going to be living in lubbock with my parents or in dallas with ME!

i decided that it was best for him to stay where he already was comfortable, and look at these two... they adore the little man, i just couldn't take him

"Elliot's room" is a powder bathroom, full of toys, a bed, blanket, litter box, and mama even soaks his food in a milk replacement formula so its easier for him to eat till he gets more teeth. spoiled much?
i'd say he lucked out going from abandoned in a pile of wood to having his own room and all the attention he can handle!

BUT--
Fluffer-Doodle (my 18 year old cat Fluffy, who is quite moody) is not Elliot's biggest fan, she in fact has been very unwelcoming to him (lets not lie, fluff is unwelcoming to lots of people and is finally tolerating coach after 2 years) yikes!

see, she doesn't even want to pose with me in my wedding dress?
she can be downright hateful, but i adore her anyway!
so,
for the record
living at my parents house now is:
 1. fluffy 2. coco picasso (the bird) and 3.Elliot

living with two cats,
i might have a drinking problem too
(its actually diet dr. pepper-- but he loves it)

and the occasional visit from this prince charming

that pretty much makes mama & daddy's house
a bit of a zoo.

I love them all (okay, well not really coco-bird, he bit me and we aren't on speaking terms for about 2 months now, but i have a feeling Elliot is going to show coco-bird who rules the roost pretty soon)
welcome to the family Elliot!

a new project

i've had this idea for a while that i wanted to put our tv on a dresser in the living room (yep-- dressers usually belong in bedrooms, but since the "rules" don't apply to me... into the living room one goes!)

i have searched and hunted, looking for just the right shape and height (it needed to be a bit lower than average, since a tv would be on it ) ... and i've found her! isn't she gorgeous?!? i just love her dainty little legs!
keep in mind, this is the before picture! i'm going to do something fabulous to her and make her stunning!
originally, i thought i would paint the dresser a bright color, like this...

then i moved on to something more like this

or perhaps this

but thats a bit "beachy" for my house,
really i just fell in love with this one

i seriously doubt husband is going to be okay with that in our living room, which is fine... but hopefully someday (don't get excited i said someday) i'll find something like this for a baby room! doesn't that just look like they rolled a piece of furniture in cotton candy? ugh, LOVE it!

so, mama and i are putting our thinking caps on to come up with a beautiful finish for my darling little dresser, perhaps something more subtle. i haven't started refinishing it yet, i'll put pics up as the progress begins!

eclipse

yes yes, friends... last night was the premier of eclipse, and our friend julie had two extra tickets to the 3 part premier (twilight, new moon, and eclipse) so, jordan and i happily agreed to join the madness!

**i'd like to let everyone know that yes, i have read the twilight books. yes, i enjoyed them. am i a twi-hard? (as E! calls twilight fans) ... no, not really. no hate to those of you who adore all that is "twilight" -- i just enjoy twilight simply as books and movies... rather than an obsession. i'm not team edward or team jacob... i'm actually Team Andrew-- cause my sweet husband is way more awesome than either of them, and ta-da he is not a vampire or a wolf... always a bonus. **

all that said, when the girls in our group busted out some stickers... i just had to go all out. all the other ladies took one sticker, and i wanted 4... i mean, come on... i had to out-twi the twi-hards!!!
Julie, myself & my stickers, and Jordan

eventually i narrowed the sticker collection down to just one,
i made some 9-year-olds very jealous
with my awesome collection of twilight paraphernalia :)

Jordan and I poked fun and laughed at how seriously everyone was taking these movies, but it was still fun. not gonna lie, eclipse didn't premier till midnight, so getting home at 3am after dropping everyone off was something i've not done in quite some time! haha... if only the stickers could make me younger!!!

props to the movie people,
the movies get better each time,
the acting......... no comment.
my favorite characters: Alice & Charlie
oh, and i way love Dakota Fanning as a vampire, she's super adorable!

i really think the greatest part of the whole night was how many poor guys got stuck participating in the Twilight-ness! brave souls. i have a feeling that the guy with the pink mowhawk was there willingly and enthusiastically! good times people, good times!
